I feel like when I tell people about the world race they think I’m going on vacation for a year. When you look at instagram you see pictures of racers at the beach, riding elephants, or petting tigers. There are off days where we go and do exciting, once in a lifetime things, but this isn’t all that the race is about.

This past month my team worked with a ministry called Hoped for the DR here in the Dominican Republic. The first week we helped take care of the kids of the missionaries we are working with. Of course this was a challenge for me, but by the middle of the week I actually started to enjoy…ok, love, the kids.

The second week we were doing door to door ministry. Our team was a little nervous going into the week because we obviously don’t do that type of ministry in the states. It can be awkward to just walk up to someones house and talk to them about their life. I won’t lie, the first few days were a little rough. It can be challenging to find a rhythm and flow to conversation. By the end of the week we had made some great friends in the town of Lajas.

For our last week we were working on english curriculum that will be taught to the local kids. The people here are eager to learn and it’s awesome to have the chance to take the knowledge we have and pass it along. It was tough for me to get into this ministry because of doing logistics for the squad and leaving the squad early for debrief. I heard my team knocked the english camp out of the park which makes me SO proud!

Over the last month my squad has been dealing with some of the tougher sides of the race. I know, month one should be pretty easy. What you won’t see on instagram are the days you are exhausted after a night of fighting against Spiritual Warfare. The enemy had plans to ruin this month, but Jesus allowed our squad to prosper.

Please pray for us as we head to Haiti for our next month of ministry. I have no doubt that our lives will be changed in incredible ways.

Love you all!
