I wanted to go ahead a write a blog about FAQ’s to give you guys an idea of what I am doing and where I will be going next year. I am so excited to begin this journey and I am glad you have stopped by to see what it’s all about!

What is The World Race?

The World Race is an 11 month, 11 country missions trip program based out of Adventures in Missions (AIM). Adventures is an inter-denominational organization that has sent out more than 100,000 people on missions trips since 1989. They have several different trips that vary by country and time on the field. The goal of AIM and the World Race is to minister to the least of these and bring the Gospel to every nation. www.adventures.org www.theworldrace.org

What will I be doing?

This can look different in each country, and even week to week. During the 11 months on the field, my team and I will be partnering with ministries and doing things like: praying healing over the sick, orphan ministries, working in hospitals, fighting against human trafficking, building relationships, seeking new ministry contacts, vacation Bible schools, etc.

When am I leaving?

The official date will not be announced for a while, but I am leaving sometime in the beginning of January 2015.

Where am I going?

When applying for the World Race, the racer chooses between the set routes for that launch month. We sign up with the understanding that this list will more than likely change…more than once. These are the countries that are currently on my route: Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Swaziland, Botswana, and South Africa.

Who will I travel with?

Somewhere around 40/50 people will sign up for the route I am on; these people will be my squad. We will all be going to the same countries at the same time, but not necessarily doing the same ministries. The squad will be broken down into teams of 6-7 people. This in essence is my family. We will be together 24/7. Within the squad and team, we have team leaders and coaches who help lead us while we are on the field.

How I was called to the World Race

Most of you know that I have had a huge heart for missions since I was 12 and went on my first missions trip! In 2003 I felt God calling me to missions, but I never knew what that would look like for me long-term. Over the last several months I have been asking God to show me what passions He has given me that He wants to use for His glory. There were two things God brought to mind, my love of travel and experiencing different cultures, and my love of serving the Lord through missions. Those two passions brought me to the World Race. If you would have asked me last year if I would be going on the World Race I would have told you that you’re crazy! In the middle of “my” figured out life, God asked me to give it up. If I am honest, I had some very real conversations with God about going. One of those, “Hey God, I’d rather be content sitting on my couch watching Netflix letting other people do this.” The truth is, I’m not content and I don’t think I ever will be with the American lifestyle. The World Race has a saying that I think fits my life perfectly “There is more to life than empty traditions, routines, and working 9-5.”

Hear me clearly when I say the idea of living out of a backpack, sleeping in a tent, not having a normal shower, leaving my friends and family, leaving my church is a lot. However, when God asks us to do something it is not only for our good, but for the good of the Kingdom. That’s why I will gladly sacrifice the comforts of this world to share Jesus with the nations! I am beyond excited for this next year and the crazy adventure Jesus is taking me on!
