This blog is going to be rather light considering I preached a 20 point sermon in the last few blogs on inheritance. Speaking of inheritance…God gave his daughter several fun gifts this last week and I am thankful. mmm He loves me.
First, debrief was incredible. All of our teams came together in Kenya and we had a blast. It was great to meet with the teams and see our incredible coaches, Jay and Denise Heesch. I loved having the squad together because we’re becoming good friends and having a lot of fun together.
I was able to see an African tribal dancing performance that highlighted the different Kenyan tribes.
Katie, Ryan, Andrew, and I also went to the most famous restaurant in Nairobi called Carnivore. There they serve tons of different kinds of meats…many of which are exotic. I ate camel, crocodile, ostrich, ox testicles and an assortment of other random things. My favorite was the ostrich meatball. Least favorite goes to testicles…Thanks to my family for funding that dinner out of Christmas money

I was also able to fulfill a life goal of going on an African safari. Once again, thanks grandma and grandpa for funding that! It was incredible. We were able to see the Rift Valley on the way. I think my favorite part about the whole day was that even before we got to the national park, we saw tons of zebras. They just run around here like deer in Ohio. It’s so neat to just see them running through the fields or grazing right next to the road. We saw monkeys, baboons, water buffalo, black and white rhinos, zebras, giraffes, tons of birds, gazelles, impalas, warthogs, ostriches, and some other random things. We didn’t get to see any lions or elephants that day, but I think I’ll survive. It was just so awesome to observe God’s creation.

At one point a monkey jumped in our van and stole a whole sleeve of my cookies. The video is at the bottom. It’s hard to see, but try to observe Ryan screaming in the van. Unfortunately I turned off the camera so I could run after the monkey who stole my cookies. Obviously I didn’t get them back. Lame.
And then we took the 28 hour bus ride to Rwanda. I forgot to tell you that rather than Tanzania, we are going to be in Rwanda due to some safety issues during election month. The bus ride here wasn’t so bad except that the bus was infested with cockroaches and more than once I woke up with them crawling on me. The pit stops along the way were also quite comical in terms of bathroom amenities. Words cannot describe the horrors…. But we arrived safely with only minor problems at the border into this beautiful country. It has many beautiful rolling hills and it is so green here. It reminds me of upstate New York. We’ve been taking a few days to recover, but tomorrow Andrew will be joining up with Samara’s team and I’ll head over to be with Laura’s team for the month where we’ll be doing evangelism and preaching. More to come on that!
