Disclaimer: This email might make you a little uncomfortable, but I didn’t make this stuff up.
Okay, so something I’ve never really experienced in the U.S. is seeing a demon cast out of someone. As of a week ago, I had yet to see that on the race. We had seen amazing healings go on in Kenya and had seen God’s power manifested in terms of casting out sickness and disease, but we hadn’t seen deliverance necessarily. That all changed on Tuesday.
We did door to door evangelism all day on Tuesday and got back to our house to eat dinner one night. I received a phone call from a friend on my squad saying that they needed help. They were at a school giving a Bible study and in the middle of it, some girls started manifesting demons. The team had been there for 3 hours or so trying to cast the demons out. So we pack ourselves up and our contact takes us over to the school. Our contact is known in this area for having the gift of exorcism, so I was thankful for that. She was so chill. In fact, at one point on our way over to the school that night, she mentioned she was so bummed that she hadn’t combed her hair. Let me tell you, having my hair combed was the last thing on my mind. If anything was going through my mind, it was fear, prayer, and the Ghost Busters theme song.
We finally arrived at the dark school and walked in. I seriously could not have prepared myself for what I saw. Samara’s whole team (you can read some of their experiences here) was on the ground holding down convulsing people. One demon started screaming at us and asking why we had come there. I had never experienced anything like that. I’m not going to go into incredible description, because that’s not what this blog is about, but it’s pretty much what the Bible explains. Convulsing, screaming, violent, sometimes acting as if they are dead, blaspheming. It was disgusting. We found out that there was a lot of witchcraft going on at the school and that several people had been involved in the occult. We just started worshiping. This weakens the demons and gets them to start talking. They start giving up secrets and information, which makes them easier to cast out. At one point, one demon said, “I am out of her!!” which of course didn’t make sense because it was still talking through her and we just had to laugh at it. At one point, we were saying the name Jesus and the demon said, “Stop saying that name, it is making me uncomfortable!!” We of course asked what name it was talking about and it kept avoiding the name Jesus because it made the demon feel very uncomfortable. So uncomfortable, in fact, that in the name of Jesus, the demon was cast out. Anyway, through prayer, worship, quoting the Bible, and the Holy Spirit, the demons were cast out and the girls were free. We covered ourselves with prayer and worship and went home.
Then again on Sunday night after a church service, two more people started manifesting demons. This time wasn’t nearly as scary because I am starting to realize the authority that I have in Christ. It took an extremely long time, but through prayer and worship, it eventually was cast out.
Today, I was talking again with our contact about all of these things and there was a commotion outside. A girl was brought in who was sick and acting really weird. I wasn’t sure what was going on. Our contact kept speaking with me and told the girl to sit and wait. She obeyed. We finished our conversation and then Frida told me to pray over the girl. I started praying against the sickness because I thought she was sick. As soon as I did, she started convulsing and getting violent. Apparently the demon was making her sick. We cast it out and she came back to her senses and explained to us the situations she was going through. Once again witchcraft played a big part.
Okay. There are my stories. I’m not trying to impress you. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m not trying glorify myself or my teams. I’m not trying to give Satan and his demons any glory. I don’t really know what I think about all this. I’m sure I’ll have more to come on this, but I haven’t had a ton of time to process through everything and I know there is a lot of confusion out there about all of this, but here’s what I do know:
Spiritual warfare is real. Demons are real. They can possess people and can torment them. You can doubt all you want, but I know what I saw and I heard.
