We’re in Malaysia!!!! Sorry its been so long since I’ve blogged last…it’s been crazy. We arrived on Monday and I was immediately overwhelmed with spiritual oppression in this country. There are 4 major people groups/religions here: Muslim, Malay, Chinese and Indian. The country is amazingly diverse with lots of different foods and traditions. Some women walk around completely covered in black fabric, while others dress like we do in the west. On one road you may drive past a Buddhist temple, a Hindu temple, a Muslim mosque and a Methodist church. This capital, Kuala Lumpur, is amazingly developed and they love to decorate everything in lights.

The people are incredibly blessed. The pastor we are working has many wealthy friends, so they have been blessing us with meals and gifts. We’ve been fed so much because Malaysians love to eat ALL THE TIME. The food is very different for us though. We’ve been lied to about Chinese food in the U.S…it is so different here. I’m fairly positive I ate cat the other day.

The Indian food is good, but spicy and you eat it with your hands- only your right hand though (yes, it’s fairly difficult to eat rice and curry sauce) because the left hand is considered dirty. Why you ask….well the tradition comes from back in the days before toilet paper and the left hand was used to…figure it out. So we’ve been eating fish brains, fish eggs, squid, anchovies, bean curds and an assortment of random things. Malaysians are so giving though. We weren’t dressed appropriately for church on Sunday, so they gave us a traditional outfit to keep (they’re kind of like Aladdin pants).
They just keep saying it is God’s blessing to give. So in all, the last week has been great.
More to come on that later!
