So my birthday was last Sunday…I know right…a little delayed. We didn’t have internet all week, so I was unable to post a blog. In case you were wondering how we celebrated…just remember our motto of going big or going home. Cake #1: It started Saturday night. We got home from church at 11 and we were about to get ready for bed and some of the youth group came over and surprised me with a cake. Cake #2: We sat in the longest church service ever on Sunday morning. After about 3 hours of sitting there, I realized the pastor was wrapping up (he was a great pastor…60 years old and still rocking the air guitar during worship). He then called us up and there was another cake. The whole Indian church sang to me. Then we ate lunch (Nasi Lemak- anchovy spicy stuff…talk about a birthday lunch). Cake #3: Sunday night we went to Friday’s (yes! they have one here!). I had to stand on a chair and sing (of course I chose a Celine Dion ballad), and then they sang to me and cheered and did all this other crazy stuff. They don’t mess around with birthdays. We finally get home and get to bed. Cake #4: Monday we’re eating with the Indian family we’re staying with. Surprise cheesecake. Crazy. So 4 cakes. Amazing. I also received some bracelets, random origami from the kids we were working with, and a tambourine from my team. They want me to develop my musical talents I suppose. It might be one of my favorite gifts ever. Yes I will make room for it in my pack. Yes I will play it during church services. Yes I will bring it and use it at my church at home J. Life is random but good. I’m expecting big things for this 25th year of my life.
