Do you feel that each leg of your race has made your adaptability increase for the next location? Or is it like a blank slate each time as cultures are so varied?
Since I have done so many missions trips to the Dominican Republic, South America just seemed like an extension of that in a lot of ways. However, Africa, nothing could have prepared me for that. I would say that each continent is like a blank slate, but each first country in the continent prepares you fairly well for the subsequent months.
What was the amazing thing you were not expecting?
The miracles. You read about them in the Bible and maybe hear about them happening overseas, but, at least I still was hesitant to believe. Once you have seen the blind healed, the lame, walk and demons casted out, there is no doubt that our God is still alive and the same as He was since He created the world! But, I’m reminded of the verse, Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” Believe! even if you have not seen.
What was the hardest part of this year?
Being in relationship (and close quarters) with other people.
What did you learn about being in relationship (and close quarters) with other people?
Patience above all. I guess, understanding and true empathy along with that. Each person needs to be loved in a personalized way. So loving them the best way I could was difficult to do every moment of the day.
What is your biggest take away that you learned this year about Gods character (a new aspect of who He is to you personally)?
Above all, how much love He has for us, and the fact that He just wants that personal relationship with us.
Have you become a better blogger?
and, why do girls blog more than guys?
Well I have to answer yes to the first question, because before the race I had never blogged before. It was awkward to start, but got easier as the months went on. I honestly forgot to a lot of the time. I was too caught up in what was going on right where I was. This was one of the most challenging things for me to do on the race. I did enjoy making videos!
And when I find out I’ll let you know!
What do you think are one or two main reasons God wanted you to do the Race?
To grow. To grow in love for others, and for Him. To grow in boldness, stepping out into whatever God calls me into and trusting Him all the way through it.
What was the most positive feedback you received from a teammate or squadmate?
I carry way more authority in the Holy Spirit than I know, and I have the serendipitous ability to relate to anyone and make them feel heard and appreciated.
