Colombia was the perfect place for me to begin this year long journey. This first month has passed by so fast. It feels like just yesterday I was still in Rockford, IL. Before the race started I thought I was going to blog every week, but now I see how fast time really goes and how intentional I need to be on the race. During our launch period one of my leaders, Austin Ulsh, spoke some prophetic words over me:
In the past 25 years of your life God has been preparing you and equipping you with tools, abilities, and talents that you will use in the next year of your life to further God’s kingdom throughout the world and grow in your personal walk with Him. In taking this next step of faith and trusting God you will see incredible change in who you are. God has built a framework of your life and now this year he is going to fill it up and build in it.
So let me do my best to describe to you how God has laid out the first floor. This month was very comfortable and uncomfortable for me at the same time. I have had a lot of experience with 3rd-world construction and kids ministry through my time in the Dominican Republic. This was very comfortable for me. However, living in 24/7 community, giving devotionals in front of soccer teams, and sharing my testimony with strangers was new and was nerve racking. As we have been praying together since training camp; this theme and word of freedom has been continually brought back into the forefront of my mind. I was confused by this. How can someone that is fearful, nervous, and feel so much pressure have freedom? That’s when God gave me the realization that the pressure is not on us to perform, it is on the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is trust Him. How much freedom is in that?! We are his hands and feet, but it’s his words and work to be done through us. Even though the pressure is on the Holy Spirit to move through us, God still requires effort from us. This means that we need to intentionally choose to be in the word and talking/listening to God everyday.
Every month I want to create a video highlighting some of my favorite parts of the previous country. I couldn’t include everything we were able to do but hopefully you can get taste of how much I have enjoyed Colombia and see how much God is working in this country. Click the link below!
