So I woke up this morning around 3:45. Yes, it was intentional, but I wasn’t too happy about it at first. Earlier in the week, my team had decided that we would hike to the lighthouse and get there before the sun came up. It sounded like such a cool idea, so we set a time to wake around 3:45 and leave by 4. As team leader, by default I kind of take the job of waking everyone else up. 30 minutes later, we were off. It looked so far away. You can actually see the light on the lighthouse spinning around, casting a yellowish beam through the sky about every 20 seconds. It looked so far away. It looked almost unreachable by foot, but we were already up and out of bed, starting our trek to see the sun come over the water.

My feet were already so sore from all the walking and surfing I did the day before, but surprisingly not as sore as I expected. It was actually a nice walk. It was so peaceful out. During the day and even late into the night, the roads are busy with cars and sidewalks and full of people. Constantly dodging cars crossing the street and shuffling through people in town. But not this morning. Not everyone goes out at 5 in the morning in town. Actually, there were only a couple people out and they were there getting ready for another busy work day, hosing down the sidewalks, setting up chairs, and unloading food. It was such drastic difference from what we were used to. It was calm, quite, peaceful.

About one and a half hours after leaving, we finally are within reach of the lighthouse. It’s just around the next turn, and the sky is just starting to go from black to a dark blue. The yellowish beam of light is starting to fade against the light of the sky. It’s almost time! We reach the lighthouse 10 minutes later and it’s beautiful! The waves below are crashing against the rocky side of the mountain. It was great. But the sun wasn’t quite over the horizon yet.

One thing I know about light is, it is most beautiful when the sun is just over the horizon. There is a very short period of time when the sun will give off some very beautiful colors. It’s one of my favorite times to shoot photos, and this morning it was amazing!

I absolutely love nature. God has created some beautiful places and I am so grateful to be able to exploring them. Here’s a few more pictures of our journey to the Lighthouse.
