I’ve been gone for one week and three days from America, now serving in Guatemala for a month. I thought I’d take a moment and share what has changed in this week.

First off, in America I used to… Wait what’s that one word? Oh, sleep. Yeah that used to happen in America! In Guatemala, I’m sleeping a lot less than what I did by going to bed at about 11:00- midnight and waking up at 4:30am every day.

“Toilet paper” is now called “Bonyo papel” because I can’t ever remember what it’s called in Spanish.

The most said words every day is “Gracias” and “hola”.

In America, my sleeping pad was not popped… It is now, even after we’ve fixed it.

I went from living with three other people, (my mom, step dad, and brother) to living with twelve other world racers, about 4-6 nannies, and ten special needs children. That would be a grand total of 26-28 people at all times. That’s a huge change for me.

I now sing Spanish hymns instead of English.

My favorite hymn is now “Glory Glory Hallelujah”, because in Spanish it’s “Gloria Gloria Allelujua”… Quite simple compared to the rest of them 🙂

I have to double check that water is purified before I drink it.

I have to refrain from eating “Street food”.

I can’t pick up caterpillars anymore because they either sting you or leave crazy spikes in your hand.

I sleep with spiders and rats.

My “house” is now two bags… in which I find spiders in.

I spend five hours a day in some sort of worship (both Spanish and English).

We always point out English speaking people and ask where they’re from.

It’s iffy to wear anything that’s even above our ankles because it is a sign of a prostitute.

I only spend thirty minutes online.

I am completely spiritually stretched.

We freak out about any type of sweets.

Oh, I climbed a volcano. No big deal.

We now tell our fellow racers when they smell.

I’ve been on a public transportation bus in Guatemala with three to a seat and people standing all along the isles. I grinded numerous Spanish people.

All my clothes are completely disgusting dirty.

ATM’s never work.

The term “feedback” has a whole new meaning.

My life is now an ADVENTURE!

I’m sure that’s just a few of the things, a lot has changed in a week! Keep posted and I’m sure there will be more!
