Two days ago, we had a day of ministry in one of the schools with the staff getting to share with them our stories and give them info on human trafficking. It was so encouraging to see how our contact and the principal of the school (who is Hindu) have such a great relationship and share a vision for educating children from a young age the dangers of human trafficking and to let them know that they are valued and worth loving so they are not vulnerable to traffickers lies and traps.
When we returned back to where we were staying, our ministry contacts met with us and laid out for us that there was a change of plans, we would be moving to a different location. So about 45 minutes after my last blog post, my team found out that we would be leaving Dhulikehel and going about an hour further north into the mountains, to Kothe. We were introduced to our new contact and then we’re told to pack our bags because we were leaving now.
We quickly got our gear together, loaded up a pickup truck and began our journey north. Alyssa and I got to ride in the back of the truck and I definitely felt like a cool kid.
The views were breathtaking. The entire ride up through the mountains I had to keep reminding myself that this was currently my life. These incredible landscapes and new culture. I think my primary word here so far has been “wow”. Our new site that we will be staying at is on the side of a cliff next to a river with a hanging bridge. You can hear the rushing water as you fall asleep at night and have the windows open to let the jungle/mountain air flow through.
Here at this site our ministry will be trekking through the mountains (up to three hours one way) to surrounding villages to meet with people in their homes to encourage and give fellowship. Also, three times per week we will help to teach a course, Mothers Against Trafficking, in a neighboring village.
We have internet available in the market, which is about a 30min walk to the next village so I will hopefully be able to post a picture blog in the near future. Possibly. Perhaps. No promises =)
