THAILAND: A RECAP IN WORDS
The first month is always the transition month in anything you do. China was just that. It was the beginning of the end of me. No, not the death, just the end of “me”, the Trent I had worked so hard to build for many years. The one that had a good job and nice car, you know the whole American package. Well, that Trent started to unravel in China and this month really started to fall apart. Thailand was beyond good, it was great. I cannot but reminisce of all that happened this month. It was chock full of culture, smiles, food, and adventures.
This month we worked with Help Thailand! An organization that takes in kids at risk to trafficking and gives them housing, education and good role models to help them grow into strong, successful and independent men and women of God. I worked with four different homes, two boys and two girls. My arms hugged more children than you could ever imagine. I played soccer, jump-rope, volleyball, card games, zombies and mummies and more! We weeded Bud’s (one of the coolest guys ever) gardens, planted exotic fruits, built new fences and gave a haircut to one of the dogs. We also built the foundation to a boys home on a new property Help Thailand has purchased. We started with dirt and now they are about to pour the bottom floor! We laid the foundation! How awesome is that?! Generations of boys will now be safe and free from sex trafficking! WOW.
Aside from those two jobs that we did, Mike and Margie, our hosts, let us stay in their beautiful home. We had wireless, air conditioning, showers and breakfast! We were so blessed! But they did not stop at that! They made sure we had a well-rounded experience of Thai culture. They took us to the Sunday night market, Thai temples, cooking classes, elephant parks and one of the villages that the kids from their homes come from. I seriously think a part of me is now Thai.
Because of your support boys and girls will reclaim their generation and the ones to come from sex trade. Because of you they will have food, shelter, clothes, mentors, an education and most importantly a chance to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I am going to miss the friends I have made here and I hope one day to return.
Lastly, the changes in me this month are beginning to become more noticeable. God is breaking down this wounded man and creating me more into His image each day. I am learning so many new qualities: leadership, brotherhood, patience, service, selflessness. Things of the old me are diminishing, sins I thought were strongholds were only lies the enemy put in my head. God is creating a new man, a better man, a warrior, a disciple. I anxiously await for all He has yet to do. Month two. WOW.
