My time in Indonesia was one of my favorites so far. We split the groups up into men’s and women’s groups for the month and it was amazing! We grew closer together and got to know each other better. We pushed and challenged each other. When the month ended and we had to go back to our original groups it wasn’t something that I was ready to do.
The guys were called to hospitality for the month to invite people to join us in our community to live life with us. We were led to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, where we stayed for the rest of the month. It started off with just one person coming to eat with us but by the end of the month we had over 20 people joining us on our last day. We had a total of 7 days were we hosted people at our place. We cooked meals, had game nights, movie nights, and a big pot luck our last day. The days that we weren’t hosting people we were out in the city with them exploring or meeting more people to come join us when we hosted.
As the month grew, our relationship with the people we were meeting grew more and more as well. Friendships that will last a lifetime.
Indonesia was the hardest place for me to leave so far. A little bit because I knew our time as the guys group was ending but mostly because of all the new people I had met. I will be going back one day, hopefully soon, and I can’t wait to see them all again!
What’s crazy is we weren’t even suppose to go to Indonesia in the first place. We were suppose to go straight to Africa from Malaysia. I honestly was ready to leave Asia and get to Africa. So when they announced the change in our itinerary I wasn’t the most thrilled with it but you know God has a plan and He knows what’s best for us!
