A few things I have learned about being a Team Leader.

Let me preface by saying that I have failed at these multiple times and am in no way close to being perfect, just ask my team. Here are just a few things I have observed in my time as a leader and I want to put into words.

  1. You are not your position. It doesn’t define you, yes you have more duties but it has to be released as it can be freely given and taken away.
  2. Just be you! Don’t pretend to be someone you are not! Like I said your position doesn’t define you so don’t sacrifice being real.
  3. Up your quiet time.
  4. Worship together. A lot.
  5. Learn from eachother.
  6. Write a mission statement for your team and constantly revamp vision.
  7. Lead by example. If you are not willing to go there, dont expect it from others.
  8. Be vulnerable. Whether it is with your past or giving people honest feedback. This opens the door for people to go there.
  9. Have team time/feedback everyday. If you don’t. You open the door for things to be swept under the rug.
  10. Do your C&C’s and get the paperwork stuff down right when it happens. If it builds up it adds stress.
  11. Forgive and accept forgiveness when you wrong someone.
  12. Repent for wrongs.
  13. Learn eachothers love languages.
  14. Create an environment of encouragement.
  15. Pursue each and every person on your team.
  16. The best way to fight for the team is through prayer.
  17. Stay calm in high-pressure situations.
  18. Empower. Empower. Empower. Try to do it all and you’ll burn out.
  19. Love your finance person well. They are awesome and do so much so help as much as you can.
  20. Schedule fun. Or just getting to know eachother. It will bring you closer.
  21. Figure out what it means to truly rest in Christ and go there often.
  22. Fall in love with Jesus over and over.
  23. Everything you do should point the team towards Jesus.
  24. Find ways to go beyond serving your ministry contact.
  25. Always pray over a new ministry site when you get there.
  26. Give people challenges!
  27. Be sensitive to where people are at, but don’t be afraid to step on toes.
  28. Do a bible study together. Or something that is helping you all grow.
  29. Try to only use a healthy amount of internet.
  30. Constantly check on fundraising.
  31. Lead through a greater dependence on Him.
  32. Serve with all your heart.
  33. Dont be offendable.

These are just a few things that i have gathered while leading and some of these i never thought to implement or failed rather ungracefully. I am so thankful for my teams patience and the way they call me out and teach me, sometimes when they don't even realize it.
