“Sprout” wearing my hat

While in Thailand, we worked with “Remember Nhu.” It is a ministry that is trying to try to reach girls and young women before being put into the prostitution or human trafficking arenas. They find girls that have risk factors (poor, parents in those industries, new marriages) and offer them a better life. They are a girls’ home as the girls’ families can contact the girls (unless there was abuse).

“Sprout” was the nickname that we gave one of the girls there. She acquired the nickname because her hair was usually in a “Pebbles” style hairstyle “sprouting” out of her head. She is only six years old. “Sprout” and I became close despite the language barrier- she spoke a form of Thai and I spoke English. We were still able to play games and laugh.  She would give me hugs and kisses on the cheek which I cherished.

It breaks my heart to think that girls as young as her are sold into prostitution or human trafficking.  I am so thankful that there are ministries like “Remember Nhu” to give these girls and young women the food, clothing, shelter, education, and love that they need.
