Since I did not have a job at the time, I volunteered to serve at the World Race Training Camp back in October. As I was flying home from Atlanta, they had asked for volunteers to give up their assigned seat to fly out the next day. Since I did not have a job at the time, I volunteered and received two free round-trip tickets to anywhere that particular airline flew. They asked for volunteers the next day again. I told them I was interested if I could still two more round-trip tickets since I had volunteered the day before. It did not violate their policy so when I left Atlanta, I was two days later than originally planned but four free round-trip tickets richer.
I continued to look at/apply to jobs, I was not hearing back and was getting discouraged. In mid-December, while praying about jobs, I heard the word “serve.” At first, I thought this was referring to a particular job that I was applying for. But as I thought about it more, I remembered Adventures in Missions (the parent company of the World Race) asking for volunteers for two events in early to mid January. You could sign up for one or both. As I thought about it, I wanted to serve for both.
However, when I registered, only one was available- the second. As the event drew closer, I thought I was going to only be able to do the second event- Passport Training Camp. Passport Training Camp is where they bring the 18-22 year old students who are going on their Passport trips to have their training.
On December 29, there was finally an opening for the first event so I signed up. I had not booked a flight since I was not sure about the first event so I did not have any added fees for changing flights. I was able to use one of my free tickets to help serve at these two events.
The first event is called “Project Searchlight.” It is for World Racers who have just finished their race to come hear about different job, school, and missions opportunities around the US and the world. As you can imagine, it was something I wanted to do since I would be able to sit in on some of the sessions and learn. If you want to know the result, you will have to read the next blog “What’s Next?”
