I AM THE WORLD’S WORST SOCCER PLAYER! NO JOKE, HONESTLY THE WORST!

Kids overseas are amazing at soccer; it appears to come as easy to them as walking does. Day 1– I’m told by the kids that I’ve been selected for goalie. I felt like this was an important position and was trying to explain how really terrible I was, but nope, goalie! HERE WE GO!

Minute one, GOAL!
                                                                                    Minute two, GOAL!
                                    Minute three, GOAL!

Just for clarification, it was not my team scoring the goals. They would come at me with the ball and all I could do was say, ‘oh no, oh no, oh no’ and then scream when they kicked the ball at me! I cannot think of a stronger word for kick or I would use it!

Then the kids started being nice to me, and toying with me, and slowly kicking it in the opposite direction of where I thought they were going to kick it, they would kick it so slow, it looked like slow motion, but…. GOAL!

SHOOT! I can’t get this goalie thing down; let me try to play out there. Ok… here we go! I’m going to kick this ball! OOPS! A swing and a miss! SHOOT! All we can do is hysterically laugh at the things the Lord has you do for Him. I will say, not everyone on my team was a good soccer player and it became a really fun game to play with the kids and a great way to show positive sportsmanship J

There was one little fireball, whom I will never forget, he started imitating me whenever he would charge the field to score (not sure if that’s a proper soccer term) but anyway, he would go‘oh no, oh no’ and then kick it in, right past my defensive skills!

Here are some pictures to illustrate what i’ve been talking about 🙂

HERE HE IS! LOOK AT THAT INTENSITY!

OH NO, OH NO! HERE HE COMES!

AHHHH!! HE SHOOTS!!!
HE SCORES!!!

CRACKING UP AT MY SKILLS!

Andrea giving me an encouraging pat and Sapphor still pointing and laughing <3 Back to the goal, I only have a few seconds before another one comes 🙂

I found out last weekend that my kid actually started studying the Bible with the pastor from our church and was eager to learn about Jesus! I was so happy and excited for him! It was not me who prompted him to learn about God, but someone did. The church rents out that soccer field so kids can play for free for the hours we play.

It’s a great way to invite people from the community and from English classes to come have fun, we build relationships then invite them to church and youth group.

Who knows how many more kids have had a peaked interest because of this! I love Cambodia; it’s seriously been such a fun ministry. By the end of a few games, I’ve even gotten a few good moves in! Playing soccer with kids in Cambodia… a hysterically amusing, fun ministry. I LOVE MY LIFE!
