Life in Lukodi… you would think that squatty potties, hammocks, thunderstorms, peeing children, pooping children, sick children, sick girls, mud huts, rice and beans, instant coffee, roosters, chickens, goats, ducks, cows, rats, acid spewing beetles, poisonous caterpillars, spiders, lizards, toads, diarrhea, stomach aches, bucket showers, leaky huts, no electricity, hand washing, and spiritual warfare would become less endearing overtimebut It hasn’t! I love it here, except for the diarrhea, sick people, warfare and rice and beans. I have refused to eat the rice and beans for the last ohh… twelve days. I’ve replaced it with candy bars that I purchase on Mondays in Gulu, and when I say purchase I mean CLEAN OUT the stores! Hello ten pounds! Just kidding but seriously.

We’ve had a ton of fun with the girls the last few weeks, we’ve done relays, games, face painting, dance competitions, and lots of fun stuff with them on the weekends-some activities including the children. It’s always interesting to see how much African women can do with a child attached to them breastfeeding- one incident included them trying to do human knot where you extend both hands out in front of you, it was a lot of laughter.Just try to picture that one! The girls love to laugh at us (we laugh at ourselves too) we often try to put things on our heads or even carry these jerry cans of water that weigh about 45 pounds-it’s quite difficult.

We’ve gotten immune to seeing little boys and girls with no pants on, boys wearing skirts or pink- they also like their nails painted. And sometimes it takes almost the whole month to find out the little boy you’ve been loving on, is actually a girl J.

This is my favorite part- we watched a movie with the children and with the girls but it was one of my favorite parts of the race to see the children’s faces light up when we put The Lion King on during the day care. They all start chanting and rooting for the characters and getting excited during the initial credits. They can’t even understand the words but they don’t care at all, they sit mesmerized. It brought the biggest smile to my face seeing them love this movie. It was such a gift from the Lord to be able to sit with them and watch a movie. I love movies.

There are a few kids I’m far too attached to. It’s been a struggle to know that we are leaving in less than a week. I’m never going to see these women or children again. Even if I were to return later, they will be off living their lives with the skills they have gained, providing for themselves and their children. I’m so blessed that I got a glimpse of the love the Lord has for them- in the love I feel for them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the children and I miss them when I take a day off. This is the hardest month of moving on yet.

(saying goodbye stinks)

The disciples and Jesus never stayed anywhere too long. They ministered and they moved on, they did not stick around to see if what they said made sense, or if it took root. They had faith that the Lord would use what they do.

James 2: 26-As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Thank you for your prayers! I love you all! <3
