I’m sorry for not having written in weeks. It’s not been for
lack of time, more a lack of motivation. It was always been hard to sit down and
dedicate time to writing blogs, but it seemed so much easier when I had seven
other people around me that had to do the same thing. There have been plenty of
things going on that I could have written about, but I’ve found myself in a
place of regular exhaustion and little inspiration.
Since the last time I wrote quite a bit has happened. I’ve
returned to an old job, joined a few ministries, reacquainted with old friends
and made some new ones, and I’ve been making plans for the future. As of now,
there is still no “ten-year” plan, but honestly I don’t believe I could function
naturally with one.
As for my job-I work for an agency as a caregiver to the
elderly. We work one-on-one with clients in their homes [or assisted living
residences]. Many of them cannot take care of their own basic hygiene anymore,
are fall risks, or need companionship because of things like dementia or Alzheimer’s.
It is rarely an “easy” job, but often rewarding. It gives me an opportunity to
put my love for Christ into action with a group of individuals often neglected
by society. The agency itself is also very flexible with my hours-allowing me
to be as flighty as my life often is.
I have begun helping out at our Riverside Ministry through
church. Monday nights we go to one of the churches downtown and provide dinner
to the homeless and low-income families in our area. After a time of worship
and a brief message we serve a hot home-made meal until their bellies and their
to-go boxes are full. Sunday nights I’ve started singing with the praise team
at our college and career ministry called the Edge. I am also hoping to participate
in a new bible study beginning next week.
As I said, I still don’t have a complete plan for the
future, but God is revealing things bit by bit. In October I am set to help out
with cooking at a future World Race training camp and hope to visit friends in
family in the south during my time down there. In December a friend and I are
going to Singapore
to visit a friend stationed with the Navy there. And I am still praying through
some possibilities for January.
I appreciate you continuing to lift me up in your
prayers. I feel much more at home in my surroundings than a month ago, but I have also grown much busier. Pray that God continues to challenge me with the things I learned throughout the year, that I do not get burned out by keeping busy, and that I continue to trust His timing with my future.
