What must it have been like? Thousands of years ago a culture built a series of temples whose grounds compare in size to that of the city of Manhattan. Huge stone pieces were stacked to make walls, giant rocks were carved to make faces on all four sides, and pyramid like steps were created in order to worship their gods nearer to the heavens.
I have been wanting to go to Angkor Wat for several years now. I think it was ever since I saw that movie Tomb Raider. The movie itself was dull and cheesy to me, but I remember watching it at the drive in and gazing at the architecture of the “set”. When I found out that much of it was filmed in a real location in Cambodia, I decided then and there that I would see it some day. Walking throughout the temples and climbing the steep sides of walls and towers was amazing. I felt like I was in that movie Congo were they find all of the gorillas at a similar type temple…except no gorillas were found this day. But I must divulge that we were in close proximity to several baboons. At any rate, I was astounded by the shear size of everything.
As I moved through ancient corridors and fallen ruins, one question kept coming to mind. Had anyone heard of Jesus? The Khmer people were doing what they thought was honorable, yet they were so far off track. Imagine if a structure of this magnitude was built to honor and worship the real Lord. Suppose we even put a fraction of the sweat and labor into our faith that these men and women did for theirs. How will we show Christ that we are serious? How do we honor our God; thee God?

There are quite a few more photos from Angkor Wat here. and here.
