Sorry that I’ve been out of commission blog-wise. We have remained incredibly busy this past week. I’m fighting a cold right now. Some due to the awesome rainy weather–which I actually do love–and some due to the insane hours we’ve been rollin’ with. I’ve been going on, basically eighteen-hour days this week.
Kids Camp was an awesome experience. I started off the week in the drama room. For those of you that know me, I’m sure that comes as no shock. :0) There are six shifts of ages that come through, split into three or four teams for each age-group. So that meant doing the drama six different times, for anywhere from five to twelve-year-olds. It was great fun!
The rest of the week I served as a team leader to an eleven/twelve year-old team and one day on a five/six-year-old team. Boy, that was a ton of work! As a team leader, you are completely responsible for you group of ten to fifteen children all day–from 9:30am till 3pm. This includes eating lunch on the floor of the gym with them. What fun! Hah.
The children here are quite a bit different than the ones I’ve worked with in the states. There were over three hundred that came through over the course of the week–most of which are unchurched. Foul-mouths and rebellious behavior was quite common even in this Christian camp. It was a great opportunity to show the love and grace of Christ, though.
Our week’s theme was Family, as many of the children here have a distorted understanding of what true family is meant to look like. Monday we focused on moms, Tuesday–dads, Wednesday–siblings, Thursday–grandparents, and Friday–God.
Each day started and ended with the whole crew in the gym with active worship–choreographed, and out-of-control fun–and a memory verse applicable to that day’s theme. The dancing was more like tae-bo and I feel fitter than ever after all of it this week. The other rotations included drama, dance class (where they learned a dance to perform on the last night for family), Bible story time, arts & crafts, sports, and silly games. It was a ton of fun and I am praying these kids walk away understanding more of family, and especially more of God!
Our “Atlanta team” (as we’ve been dubbed) also was able to perform a DRIME for the teen camp–thirteen and up.
