Zambia has a restaurant called Hungry Lion – the better version of KFC. I was sitting in the restaurant with Jordan and Maya while we were eating ice cream. A deaf man sat down at the table next to us and slid us a laminated paper that explained he was deaf and asking for money. Jordan and Maya tried to charade and talk to him, but obviously that was hard. They tried to ask him permission to pray for him, but he did not understand. The only way I can describe what happened next is the Holy Spirit.

Suddenly, I knew how to ask to pray for him in sign language. It was the gift of tongues…in ASL. I signed “can we pray for you?” and he replied “yes”. Then I asked him his name, which was Tinashe. I asked if he believed in Jesus and he answered yes. I continued to sign with him and told him that Jordan and I were from America and Maya was from Canada. He told me that he is moving to Canada in July (most likely not true – people say things like that in order to receive money.) On a receipt, I wrote down the story in the Bible where a deaf man asks the disciples for money and instead they respond that they have none, but they can pray for him. We prayed over him twice and he wasn’t healed, but the Lord told me he would be healed soon. I am not sure if that means on this earth or in heaven, but I trust it will happen.
