It feels so good to be back in Nicaragua!
Two years ago God brought me to this beautiful country to build a church in Managua – a short ten day mission trip. I would of never guessed that two years later I would be back here calling this place my home for the next three months still as a missionary. But God did! He knew the way this place would have captivated my heart. He knew Nicaragua would stir this passion in my heart for missions and my soul would begin to crave this type of lifestyle.
For this past week I’ve been able to experience a new area of Nicaragua. I’ve been living on Ometepe Island at Cicrin with five girls and three boys from my sqaud while the rest are enjoying the Parent Vision Trip in Granada.
This place we’re living is huge, it almost feels like a summer camp. There is a lake to swim, a basketball court, a goats farm, a school, a tutor building, a playground, and a hangout spot called the ranch.
Cicrin takes in kids who’s parents can’t financially, physically or emotionally care for them. This is a place they can come to earn an education and be loved on. There is about 22 kids who we get to spend the day with along with the people who volunteer/work/live here and the other missionary teams that come in and out. Within these couple of days Cicrin has accommodated the 9 of us, a group of approixmately 15 from Gordon College and a group of 35 from Adios Ministries. And on Monday 28 more from my sqaud are coming to live here. Remember when I told you this place is huge? Ya, I was not kidding. It’s been a great opportunity to connect with new people and do ministry with them.
Ministry here has been hands on labour work and I’m loving every minute of it! My team and I have been helping create a road at the farm, dig holes for water pipes to be placed, racking the never ending pile of leaves on the yard, playing sports with the kids, and helping out at the school and in the kitchen. It’s been a full packed week!
I really love it here, leaving tomorrow morning will be another bittersweet goodbye. For the rest of my time in Nicaragua I’ll be living in Managua with a new team called ‘Spoke In’ (surprise, team changes!). I’m still on an all girls team which I’m very pleased. I loved the community of sisterhood I was able to experience on my last team and I’m looking forward to the new community God is going to show me through a new of ladies. And unfortunately I have not been updated on what ministry will be like in Managua but I’m excited to find out and tell you guys all about it.
Please be praying for my squad as we’re making a new transition into our last country of the race and new teams. Pray that the thought of going back home so soon wouldn’t consume our minds and instead we would stay present. Taking in all that God wants to reveal to us and grow spiritually. More than ever before.
Thank you guys for everything.
Always with love,
Tori
