Our team got our ministry description one day before leaving for the Dominican Republic. Relations/hard core was what we were going to be doing for the month. What does that mean? Your guess was as good as mine. Last night after seeing the largest and quickest spider I have ever seen scurry across the hallway wall of our pastor's house (everyone knows how much I love spiders) we learned what we will be doing for the next 3 weeks. Let me tell you, as american’s say it is hardcore.
This week team Tharseo, in greek meaning take courage will have a part in leading church service (the church our pastor we are living with attends) on sunday and wednesday evenings with singing and giving a small message. We have already cleaned a local school by picking up trash, putting up a fence, trimming shrubs, weed whacking, organizing over a hundred desks and chairs that were piled up for quite sometime outside the school that we will begin to repair tomorrow. In the soon future we will be sharing with these high schoolers about Jesus; something we are not allowed to do in the states and this is only the beginning.
The upcoming days and weeks we are going to be acting out of love in various ways as God has instructed us to love one another. Our future includes building a wall, painting a mural, putting on a roof, visiting young children at schools, playing soccer with these children and traveling to a place in between the dominican and haitian border that is neither the dominican or haiti. This is a land that has no name but contains many tribes that will be try and witness to. The dominican people have such big hearts and are so welcoming. God has overly blessed us this month. Our team of 7 has..
1. A roof over our heads; we have not had to sleep in our tents
2. actual beds to sleep in
3. A shower,
4. A toilet – verses a squatty potty
5. A WASHING MACHINE
6. AND an amazing family of 5 to cook us breakfast, lunch and dinner
I also can’t forget
7. Our super awesome translator Horlyne from San Juan that makes our lives so much easier by communicating back and forth with every single person we come in contact with.
What else can I tell you lovely people..
That I love it here 🙂 Being in the dominican is some kind of wonderful. The weather has been really hot similar to this summer, high 80’s and 90’s. It is raining right now and just enjoying family time with our host. Will post another blog soon with more details! Please continue praying, its beneficial for you and me! love you all so much <3
