We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here’s my story…
It feels like it’s been a long journey to get here…but also like it happened overnight! Unlike most going on this trip, I was actually born in the 70’s, have long since graduated college, and have been working in my profession for seven looong years now! Not exactly the cookie cutter World Racer in many ways. For me though, the timing has been utterly perfect!
The years I’ve spent working as an architect have been…interesting. And just to dispel the myth, architecture is not nearly as glamorous as you would think! The hours can be very long, much of the work is mundane, and the pay is nothing to get excited about. You have to love it to stay in it. And honestly, I never have. It’s been a challenge for sure…just not the sort of challenge I thrive on. But, it’s where God called me to the starting blocks. So I’ve run…and run…scanning the horizon for where He wanted me to take that bend in the road that would lead me down another path. Very early on in my career, the Lord made it very clear that architecture was not my “final destination”…but where He was leading me, I would hav
e to wait for His timing…but that it was worth it! And, more so than anything else in my life, I have always believed that…with everything in me. So for seven years, it’s just been lap after lap after lap. There were some little hints of a fork in the road that I would follow and explore…but each one still led me back to where I already was…until this moment.
And now…now that He’s practically highlighted the exit ramp with flashing neon signs with big glaring arrows saying, THIS WAY…now I see why I had to run all those laps. He’s been training me for this journey! There were things I could have only learned in the corporate world that would prepare me for the Kingdom work He has planned for me next. He’s used every little nuance of my journey thus far to draw me closer to Himself and grow this passion within me that longs to pour out His love. And now that I am looking back, it truly is breathtaking how masterfully the Lord has weaved the experiences in my life to bring me to this place. Both with work and personally. The people I’ve met, the places I’ve been, the friends I’ve made, the challenges I’ve faced, the ministries I’ve been a part of…all of it has made me who I am today. He’s used me in ways I never expected, and changed me in ways I never thought possible! And it’s just the beginning!
