What does it look like to have our head match our heart?

Acting and living through our hearts intentions, not through the building of our heads.

Let me explain. Our head receives information, taking, taking, taking, from dawn until dusk. Our heart is constantly working, giving, giving, giving, 24/7. Without a second thought our hearts pump blood. The heart doesn’t say “I’m feeling tired of giving, I’m going to keep some more of this for myself.” No! It knows the other members of your body wouldn’t get what they needed. Our hearts CONSIDER the WHOLE body. Our heads are quite different. Thoughts, second thoughts stream through our minds sometimes making it too foggy to act out the true intentions of the heart.

They can make us second guess ourselves, our intentions, saying “is this going to make me look good?” Considering more what others might think instead of following the heart and what God wants to do through you in that very moment.
Your head can say “I’m not feeling well, so I’m going to disengage.”
God forever wants us to be engaged with our hearts, ready to act according to His will and on His timing. Our mind is powerful, so we need to be careful what we feed it. Feed it with the word of God and of His truths and you will be prepared for whatever comes your way.

For example, a big part of our ministry this month has been us teaching English. We were in a small village the first week of the month and now we’re working in a school with kindergartens and grades 1st-4th. My mind tells me “Be afraid. You’re not a teacher. You just started liking kids. You don’t know what to do.”
My heart says “Don’t be afraid for another second. Trust in the Lord and everything you need will be provided to you!”
Let me tell you, I notice a huge difference between the days I walk into the school nervous, gripping my lesson plans I’ve scrambled and stressed about getting done. The class doesn’t go as planned but, at the end of the day it all works out. But, on the days I pray before hand and say “God give me what these children need,” I walk into the school excited, ready and with the compassionate, loving heart God has given me. If I go into ministry focused on only what my mind says, I’m not living to my FULL potential which God has planned!

“Let all bitterness, indignation, wrath (passion, rage, bad temper), resentment (anger, animosity), quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).” -From the Mind

“And become useful, helpful, kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), and forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.” -From the Heart
Ephesians 4:31-32 AMPC

Yes, your mind tells your body how to feel, but before that your mind needs to be physically fueled. Recognize where it’s being fueled from, the center of it all, our hearts! There’s no mistake when people say… “she has a good heart and you’ll be in my heart.” Hearts are important, and we all know this we just don’t always give it true recognition for its true purpose. Our hearts are much more than just an organ. They’re a symbol of love. God is love. God uses our hearts and the Holy Spirit who lives within us to speak to/through your heart every second of everyday!

“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.”
1 John 4:10-12 NLT

When we say “I’ve accepted Jesus into my heart,” He immediately starts speaking into our hearts. Speaking love and Truths of who we are in Him. It’s the minds roll to receive these messages, and it’s our minds decision on whether we take action, speak it, and LIVE IT OUT. LISTEN TO YOUR HEART, GOD IS SPEAKING TO IT, AND YOUR HEART IS TRYING TO RELAY THE MESSAGE. If your heart is saying “Sing!” Don’t over think it. SING!!! If your heart is telling you “take this opportunity” don’t think, “is this really what I’m suppose to do?” Listen to God. Listen to your heart.

There’s a song by United Pursuit called Head to the Heart. In the first chorus it says, “from the head to the heart you take me on a journey of letting go and getting lost in you.” Our journeys aren’t always filled with good times. There’s hills and valleys, and through it all God is asking us to LET GO of control and simply let him guide us the whole way no matter what that entails. He has our best interest in mind. Take me on a journey from relying on myself and what my head says to trusting what my heart says, because that’s what God says.

If you’re looking to have a head to heart connection, here’s some things I’ve been doing while on the race. Steps to making your heads’ beliefs and actions match your hearts intentions.”
Start with this prayer:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right and steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit.”
PSALM 51:10-12 AMP

From there set aside time throughout your day where you can sit quietly to tune in with your heart and what God has to say. Then, with time and building you’re relationship with the God, make your actions match what your heart is telling you. There’s no truer form of God then what He shares through our hearts.

Let’s be vessels for God and have a head to heart connection.
