I have been trying to see the world in a different light lately. Keyword: Submersion… Going from the surface to somewhere deeper. Taking everyday experiences and applying them to the depths of who we are. So with that said…

A couple of days I was able to go to the 2nd largest building in the world on my day off, the Parliment Palace in Bucharest, Romania. (The largest building in the world is the Pentagon in the States.) The palace was built in the late 80’s by Romania’s bat-crazy president. It cost over 10 billion dollars to build. $10,000,000,000!

I posted more pictures here:

The place was freaking extravagant and awesome. Guinness World Record says its the heaviest building in the world. After seeing a 5 ton chandelier that was bigger than my car, I can see why. There was gold, silver, crystal, and marble everywhere. I had never seen anything quite like it.

My eyes were challenged to focus and take everything in as I walked into the huge, amazing rooms. Not only did I have to take in the sheer magnitude of everything, but I would have to slow down and stop to notice the small details. Little intricate, elaborate designs were everywhere. For example, there would be a door that was 30 feet tall, and from the floor to the ceiling the wood would be riddled with beautiful carvings. The floor tiles were painstakingly laid out in such a way that the floor design would imitate the elaborate ceiling. My brain struggled to comprehend everything.

‘This is so nice!‘ I thought to myself.

While I was standing inside an enormous  room studying small craftiness a verse popped into my head.

1 Peter 1:24-25
‘All the flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.’

… This incredible building is nothing. It will crumble and fade someday. The precious stones used to build it and decorate it will corrode and fade away into dust. My attitude changed in that moment. Suddenly, the building did not represent what money and power on this Earth can do, the building represented the glory of God. The wonder, beauty and awe of the building are just a reflection of some of God’s qualities. Think about it. He gave man the ability to build such a structure.

I like serving a God who I cannot understand. A God who is so much bigger than I am that I cannot see the end of Him. A mysterious Being that is invisible… yet entirely visible if we chose to acknowledge him.

A.W. Tozer said this,
The most significant fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like.

I couldn’t agree more. I believe that God is an artist and the universe is his canvas.

Humans, you and I, are his art.
His art, created art.
Don’t lose focus, try to follow along.
So, the art …. you and I, mankind in general… have created art, like the Parliament Building.
He created us to be something great.
We created this building to be something great.

I imagine this building is like mankind holding up a gigantic mirror and just reflecting back God’s own image of greatness so He can see Himself.
