Yesterday started as a normal day. We crammed 8 people into a 5 person taxi, nothing new. Actaullay turned into 9 caused we picked up the driver's friend. Oh Africa! We were heading to a familiar place, Migouri, Kenya. It's where we do hospital ministry and where we get our groceries. The only difference today was that we were visiting a police station in the morning and a prison in the afternoon. Oh and I was preaching at both of them.
We were supposed to visit the prison last Saturday, but that was halted due to a youth riot in Migouri which blocked all the roads into the town. Pastr reschedued with them on Wednesday afternoon, which was the same day we were talking to the police. Coincidence? I think not. We don't serve a God who works accidentally. We serve a God who works intentionally.
So in preparation for both messages, God really told me to focus on the word respect. More specially respect for their position for the police and fearing God through respect for the prisoners. The more I was preparing my messages, the more I realized they were becoming controversial. I was basically teling the police not to take bribes, not to place innocent peple in jail, to act just and righteous. Me, this 21 year old Mzungu was telling this to about 25 armed Kenyan guards. WHAT WAS I THINKING! That's just it though, it wasn't Me who ws in control it was the Holy Spirit through me.
Let me paint you a picture of my message to the prisoners. So we walk up to the ward al the prisoners a gathered in. There are literally about 300 or so Kenyan and Ethopian men dressed in black and white striped uniforms being as loud as possible. This white boy from Louisiana was pretty intimidated. After the Chaplain calmed them down and we introduced ourselves, he asked for certain prisoners to sing. First this guy got up and rapped this song he wrote. Talk about legit! Man this guy was spittin truth about the world. Reminded me of Lecrae. Next some Kenyans got up and sang in Swahili. Dang those guys sing from their heart. Last were the Ethopians. Lemme just say, WOW! These guys know how to sing and when they do, you feel it. So after that I feel the Spirit in the room and the nerves start to go away.
My message to them was about getting over your pride and showing God that you need Him. Asking Him for strength and through that strength you recieve peace. By the way, this the most confident I have ever been in front of a crowd. All thanks to the Holy Spirit speaking through me. I can't tell you enough how more exciting ministry is when you just let yourself go and let the Holy Spirit take over you. Freedom right there. So not sure what else I talked to them about ha. I remember something about not wasting time and leaving as a changed man.
Yeah, big day for my team. Once we get better internet, i'll upload some pics. Kenya has really stirred something in my soul. We have little over a week left here. CRAZY! I feel like we just here. Well all is good. Much love and be blessed people. Your life is better than you think.
Tommy
