Fund raising has been a real test for me. I've done fundraising before, but not in this compacity or for a missions trip. Most of the events have been for organizations on campus that people know about and give to regularly. The World Race is waaay different. I mean a year ago, I had no idea that the World Race existed. So with that being said, i've noticed that I "market" giving support to WR differently to different people. When they ask why I want to go, I'll say stuff like "I want to help people" or "I want to see the world" or "It'll look great on a resume." Then I'll feel guilt and say, "Oh and i'll get to share the Gospel with other people." I save Jesus for last. This is a problem that I need to fix.
I should be describing WR as a way for me to showcase the Gospel to God's people, but instead I'm saying that WR is a way for me to help others in need and see the world. I mainly see the difference when I'm talking to a believer opposed to a non-believer. I have to stop this! I need to use this time to minister to people here. If I bring up the Gospel it could spark a conversation. "What exactly is the Gospel?" "Why are you so passionate about it?"
From now on, I will not save Jesus for last. I would not have found out about the WR if I had not gone to Haiti on a missions trip. I would not have met an awesome church family that is so willing to help me raise support. I can go on and on how God has blessed this journey for me. HE is the reason why I am called to this adventure.
Squadmates, if you are doing the same thing, please change that. We will not be able to raise our support if we rely on worldly methods of fundraising. HE will provide, and we cannot forget to give HIM praise for that.
