This is the first year I have been away for Christmas. My family has many traditions-singing Christmas carols, reenacting the nativity, lighting candles and giving thanks for a good year, singing/acting “The 12 Days of Christmas;” and opening stockings Christmas morning. I knew that nothing could ever compare to my families traditions, but Libre celebrated with such flare that the season couldn’t help but be bright.
I had every intention of posting pictures of our Christmas fun but once again the internet isn’t cooperating.  So, you will have to settle for my lame description…
On Christmas Eve my team reenacted the nativity story.  I thought they may object to my family tradition but they embraced it with great enthusiasm.  The angel danced onto stage, the sheep baa-ed on cue, and baby Jesus even got a ride from the sheep.  Then we opened our first Christmas present, matching pajamas from Abby.  Next we took pictures (with pjs) in front of our makeshift fireplace.  Lindsey did a great job of decorating our living room making it feel a little more like home.
Christmas morning we groggily joined around the fireplace to open our stockings (decorated sweat socks).  Nothing wakes me up like candy!  We also exchanged presents.  My team is so practical; I received batteries, a DVD, Kleenex (to be used as tp), and chocolate.  With Mark and Emily’s traditions completed we cuddled around a laptop, bags of popcorn in hand, and watched “Home Alone.”  It was fun sharing Summer’s family tradition- not so fun picking up all the popcorn that the little piggies dropped all over the floor.
So, all in all, Christmas was crazy and amazing.  I may hate African internet but my African Christmas with Libre was great.

                                     Merry Christmas!!

Keep your eyes out for future Christmas pictures and videos.  I would love to share them with you and will keep trying to post them…even if it is March when I finally get them uploaded.  Love you all!
