Therefore, dear brothers, stand firm.  Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58

I would be lying if I didn’t admit that there were days I did not want to work in the library at the PCF school (www.pcf.ph).  It was hot; my shirt would be outlined in sweat within 15 minutes.  It smelled awful; hot garbage, dust, and mold are unwlecome scents in my nose.  It often flooded; when it rained water would pour in through the ceiling and bubble up through cracks in the floor.  We had to rush around to find rain boots to keep our feet dry in the flood.  It was boring and repetitive; I cut plastic and wrapped a book, cut plastic and wrapped a book…  It was frustrating; after a full week of work, a volunteer arrived who had been working on the library for months.  We had just spent a week undoing the work he had completed.  We then got to spend another week undoing the work we had done.
During my weeks with PCF I repeatedly quoted 1 Corinthians 15:58.  I needed to remind myself that the work I do may not always be exciting or fun.  Sometimes it may be just ordinary or even boring.  Nevertheless, I cling to the work I do in the Lord.  I will give it everything I have knowing there is purpose in my efforts.

PCF Library Before
When we finished organizing the library, we went to find the school’s principal to show our work.  As soon as we opened the doors children flooded into the room.  What a welcome flood!  Instead of running to find my rain boots I sat and let the excitement of the students rush over me.  Their library was complete and no one could doubt the joy it brought to the teachers and the students…Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
