I wrote the following poem the other night when the power was out and it was storming. I think I stole the last line from somewhere, but otherwise it’s an original. Enjoy!

Companions / 10.10.2012
We meet by candlelight
Sitting
together at night
Voices
dampened by the rain
Lifting
up our prayers
We gather in the silence
Sharing
in our evening moments
Noses
stuck inside our books
Waiting
until we rest
We sit together on couches
Growing
stiff from slouches
Watching
candlewick slowly burn
With
welcome company
We wait within warm walls
Voices
drift from down the hall
Putting
this day’s tasks to rest
Until
tomorrow beckons, “Rise.”
