Let me tell you how awesome God is! He is so awesome that He cares about the little things. And I mean the really little and unimportant things. And if God cares about the small things then how much more does He care about the big things? Amen?!
Here’s the story. I lost my Iphone.
By the time I noticed it was gone though it was too late. There really wasn’t anything I could do about it. Sure, I lost some things on it, and I would have to go without it for the next seven months, but it wasn’t the end of the world. My teammates, Casey, Karli and Benita, began praying that the Lord would help us find it, and that if it was somewhere in the dirt that the Lord would cover it and let no one else find it.
I thought it was a lost cause.
So there we all were, eating at a reastaurant in Huanchaco, Peru for lunch, when Benita got a call from our ministry host, Auden. He asked her if she lost a phone. She said, “I didn’t, but TJ did.” He said that it had been found and would be returned to me later.
I just started laughing.
And it was right then that I realized, wow, if the Lord wants to provide me with a thing that I don’t really need in my life, something so small and inconsequential, then how much more does He want to provide the things I really need in my life.
God’s got us. He has us in His hands. He will take care of us and provide. He is a God who can be trusted with our lives.
It was a beautiful reminder.
Now, here’s how God orchestrated it all: I was walking in the dusty, dry, desert town of El Milagro with my team on our way to catch a bus to go to Huanchaco on our off day. My Iphone fell out of my beach bag in the street, which is pretty much a desert. This was at 9 ish in the morning. There were plenty of locals around that had to have witnessed my Iphone dropping in the street, and that town is known for robberies. Our pastor told us that just the other day someone was held up at gunpoint and robbed.
At 12:30, (four hours later) one of the preschool teachers at the ministry we were helping with this month was walking home. On her way home, she saw an Iphone in the street and picked it up assuming it was one of ours. She called the pastor and asked him if he knew anything about it. He didn’t, but he told her to hold on to it, and he would find out. It was indeed mine. So he had her give it to a friend in the town for safekeeping until I could come pick it up.
Lady who found my Iphone and held on to it for me.
Crazy! For four hours it was in the dirt, and nobody stole it! And the person who did find it was someone that we knew. That’s awesome! That’s God!
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7: 9-11
That is our God!
Trust Him! Even with the little things!
Until the next adventure,
Teej
