I’m just gonna throw this out there: I will not date until I am finished reading the Bible.

There I said it.

Now I’m committed. But more than that, I’m committed to the Lord, and I’m committed to Him first. It’s out in the open for the entire world to read about in my blog. I have a lot of followers. Cough. Sarcasm.

This thought has occurred to me several times over the past couple of years. Really ever since I started trying to read the whole Bible.

When I was younger, I always thought one day I would read the Bible. As a sixteen year old, one day in my mind meant when I was older, late 50’s, with nothing else to do. That is when I would have time to sit down and actually do it. So naïve.

It wasn’t until college that I realized, one never really has time; one must make time. Why should I wait until I’m older to read the Bible instead of starting right now?

So that’s what I did. I kept asking multiple people the best way to read God’s word, and a lot of them said the same thing. Read it like a book, from start to finish. I thought that was as good an idea as any. So I started doing that my freshmen year in college. I made it to Leviticus and then stopped. Got sidetracked with life and didn’t make much time for Jesus.

That is until my senior year in college. My roommate and also best friend, Erica Josey, and I both wanted to read the Bible. So we tried Bible in a year. We failed. So we tried it again. Failed again. Failed as in stopped trying because we got so incredibly behind. After about our fifth attempt, we stopped altogether. I realized that the Bible in a year approach just didn’t work for me. So I tried another approach. To just read it from start to finish. Which was originally suggested. This time I’ve stuck with it, finally! And the Lord has stuck with me, of course. I have now been working on reading God’s word for almost two years, and guess what? Today, I am halfway through reading and studying the Bible!!

So to celebrate my halfway mark, because let’s face it, this is a feat for me, I wanted to share this blog to say I am committed to Christ. And committed to Him first! And I will not date until I’m finished.

A toast…here’s to remembering December, and putting Christ first!

Until the next adventure,

Teej
