So for several years the Lord has been calling me to give up all my material objects and live off Him alone.
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” -Matthew 19:21 This is not something he calls everyone to in the same way, it may look different for each person. But for some time now I have wanted to be free of all my belongings that I did not need.
So, I set my first yard sale for Saturday April 13th 2013. I checked the weather and to my disappointment what did I see in the forecast, RAIN. It was listed to thunderstorm the first really big storm of the season. Why God, would you ask me to sell all my stuff and then have a thunderstorm? So I put into action the prayer warriors on my T-squad and in my church to pray for my yard sale. They all faithfully prayed for my yard sale to go well and for great weather. But what we didn’t know at the time was that we were actually praying for my yard sale the following weekend.
On Friday the 12th I drove home from work in rain, that covered my car window it was like I was someone with 20/400 vision. I got home safe and looked at all the items I pulled together for the sale and I was not ready, there was stuff everywhere, and I was overwhelmed with additional things I needed to get accomplished. I turned on the TV and the forecast still showed that the thunderstorms were going to continue into Saturday. So I made the decision that Friday night that it would be best to move my yard sale to the next weekend on the 20th of April.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.- Proverbs 16:3
So on Monday I again check the weather, it showed Monday –Friday bright sunny Florida days with toasty, rain free, 80 degrees weather, perfect. Then, I get to Saturdays weather and there it is again, RAIN! Listed as a 70% chance of Thunder storms? OK ? REALLY? GOD!
I again turned to God and prayed, asked everyone I talked to that week to pray for God to move the rain away from the yard sale. Really, I asked everyone and not just once or twice, I asked them every time I spoke to them. I trusted God that he was going to provide for me on Saturday at the yard sale but I know prayer has power and that no matter rain or shine it was going to be a day that glorified God.
Friday Night came around and again a horrible storm came through, I was thinking to myself, RAIN OR SHINE we are having this yard sale. Earlier in the week I had purchased painters plastic just in case it was “rain” and not “shine”. I check the weather one last time. And the Weather man said that Saturday was clear of rain (yes perfect) … he finished that with; everyone except for Brevard County is free of rain. NO, I’m in Brevard County! My friend Aleah was spending the night to help me set up in the morning (she is a blessing, super sweet friend.) We prayed bold prayer that night. Prayers for the rain to be moved, that it would be a dry day and that if it did rain that the people still come out to buy my lovely possessions.
So we woke up the morning of April 20th 2013 at the crack of dawn to set up and there was no rain, praise God for a great start. About 30mins into the yard sale the skies opened up, and buckets of rain came down. Don’t worry though God had prepared me for this situation (remember I bought painters plastic earlier in the week). The rain only lasted for about 10mins.There was no more rain the rest of the day!!! I opened my weather app several times throughout the day to look at the radar just to make sure we weren’t going to have any more surprises. Check out the pictures below, the Rain really sat right around us all day long … avoiding the Yard Sale. I was blessed with lots of customers coming all day. God provides for His children!
I ended up making $665 dollars to put towards my trip and also made a dent in selling my stuff before I leave.
O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.–Psalm 89:8
Wow did God step it up this weekend. He is pretty sweet. I mean who do you know that can stop rain from moving?
