Hannah and I had a wonderful month in the Dominican Republic filled with so many amazing experiences.  The following are just a few of the things that God allowed us to be a part of last month…so never had we ever:

1. Lived with 21 people in close community.
2. Farmed in the Dominican Republic.
3. Shared a shade tree with a very lazy cow.
4. Cleared land by hand with a pickaxe and shovel.
5. Taken a bucket shower.
6. Had a western toilet, but no running water to fill the tank.
7. Used a squatty potty.
8. Rode down a major road riding on the running boards of a truck.
9. Rode 40 minutes up into the mountains riding on the running boards of a truck…in the rain.
10. Saw a tape worm swimming in the water that I have been standing in all morning.
11.  Driven in a foreign country for the first time in a Nissan Frontier with 16 people on board.
12. Ate dinner to the sound of the Titanic soundtrack blaring because it is the only english CD the owner has at the restaurant.
13. Gone into a place that is totally void of Jesus’ light and felt the oppressive and heavy darkness.
14. Rode in a Nissan Frontier with 29 people on board.
15. Drank coffee that was home grown and sweetened with home grown sugar cane.
16. Had a rock throwing contest in a mountain river with a former Dominican pitching prospect.
17. Had a witch doctor try to curse me for coming to his village and sharing the gospel.
18. Talked about the Bible with a group of boys who have just started the Book of Matthew…the first words of the Bible they had ever read.
19. Had church under banana trees.
20. Walked a tarantula across the street to get it away from our house.
21. Weighed malnourished babies and provided formula.
22. Climbed a real deal mountain to go pray for a single house at the top.
23. Fallen in love with a country that is as beautiful as its people.
