Our home for the month is a two story block building with no a.c. There are three smaller rooms and one big open room with bunk beds. Our team of six (we miss you, Josh) and two other teams of seven (20 people) are all living together. We share 4 bathrooms with only one toilet that flushes and one shower with water pressure. Most people in the house take bucket showers.  Personally, I wait until the shower with pressure is available. We are very fortunate to be staying here because this is a very nice house here in the DR. That is not the case according to American standards.

We have to hand wash our clothes. Timothy and I just finished our first load a few minutes ago. Neither one of us have ever hand washed clothes so it was a learning experience. While washing, I immediately thought of how convenient it is to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine in America.

Our budget for the month is $3 a day for food and $5 a day for lodging. Our team went to the market the second day we were here to plan our meals for the week and somehow figure out how to feed six people on 5,000 pesos. Our meals we planned for the week include: grilled cheese with tomato soup, burritos with rice and beans, spaghetti with no meat, rice and beans, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, stir fry type rice with lots of vegetables.

Even though it is sparse, we are so thankful for where we are this month.

Love you all, Hannah
