Hannah and I have been exceedingly blessed as we have trusted in the Lord to raise the funds necessary to go on the World Race. Many of you who will read this blog have donated and to each one of you we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. However, there is one donor that will forever hold a special place in our hearts and minds.
On Saturday May 26, 2012, we held a yard sale to raise money for our trip. At the sale, Adelyn Singley, who is six years old, arrived bright and early with her mother to help with the sale. However, Adelyn was not trying to sell shoes or toasters. Adelyn had made cookies and was selling them with all proceeds going to our trip. Adelyn was the hardest worker at the yard sale and made sure nobody left without getting hit up for cookies. In fact, she plainly told people who gave large bills that they “didn’t need any change back because it was going to a good cause.” I heard rumor of a single cookie being bought for $5.00.
As I looked on, I could not help but think about the story from the Bible of the widow’s mites. Luke 21 tells usthat as Jesus taught at the temple, He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all;for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God,but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
On a hot Saturday in May, I saw the story of the Widow’s Mites come to life. I saw Adelyn having little, but giving everything she had to our mission trip. I believe that Jesus was proud of Adelyn and we will be forever grateful for her help. Adelyn ended up raising $46.00. Thank you to Adelyn and everybody who has supported us and our mission. We love you.
