First, sorry there are no pictures. The internet here is too slow to post them now so I will get them up later.
I have had the privilege to spend the last several days in Trujillo, Peru with a squad of World Racers as they begin their month of ministry here. We are staying with a ministry called Inca Link and the squad is aiding in their various projects.
We are in a desert area between the mountains and the coast. Gang activity and violence are notorious here. Ministries such as street and door to door visiting and evangelism in the area, sports with the local children, prison visits to preach and have church with the inmates, and construction on the Inca Link ministry compound keep the 50+ Racers on this squad busy throughout each day. Honestly, this is not the picturesque mountain-scapes and ancient ruins that I would have imagined as Peru before coming, but what is happening here has a beauty all its own.
The squad is just beginning their second month of ministry on their eleven month journey and so I am here along with one of my fellow World Race staff members to help the group launch into their discipleship journey of community and vulnerability with each other and to also train and equip them to launch into our Unsung Heroes Campaign which is an initiative to find and connect with more people in each country they visit who are serving the lowest of the low not looking for recognition or acclaim in the hopes of partnering with them and their ministry for future World Race team’s outreach.
My days include mornings of training one of the teams in this initiative, spending time listening to, talking with, and discipling the Racers in where they are at in their journey and walk, and evening sessions together as a group being real and vulnerable with testimonies and struggles in order to find healing and build the body together. It has been incredible to see what the Lord does when we obey His word to bring sins to light and speak truth to the lies that have controlled many of these young people in their pasts. Simply having the courage to confess our stories to each other brings freedom and takes the power and captivity that darkness can have over us when we sit in it alone in secrecy.
It is humbling to be a part of it with these brave people having experienced and continuing to experience this in my own life. It is amazing what happens when we get out of God’s way and simply be obedient to what he asks us to do with our burdens. Weight is lifted, darkness is cast out by light, and fear is replaced by love. It is the treasure hidden in a field worth selling all that you have to buy.
I only have two more days to spend here but am so grateful for the blessing of getting to come to Peru and be a part of what God is doing in and through this World Race Squad. Thank you to all of you who support me and pray for me for being a part of this as well! It could not happen without you.
