Hola !
The name of the town we are staying in is La Cama, it is about 2 1/2 hours away from Antigua. We are officially in Mayan country. It is beautiful here I think I would describe the geography as mountainous farm jungle, very cool, there are corn stalks that are like 15 feet tall its amazing. We are staying with Pastor Manuel and his family. Him his wife, four boys and one girl, they have blessed us sooo much. We all have our tents pitched inside a little cement block building. Its very cozy 🙂 . We are all in agreement that we love it here and would like to spend the rest of the race at their house! Haha but we know that we best be about our Fathers business.
Our job here will be to help build a church fit for 300! Which is an unusually high number for this area. But Pastor Manuel has a dream and God has big big plans for this area. We feel that Pastor and his family are a big part of our ministry here, to build them up and prepare them for the things to come. We are so excited to be here and be a part of the start of something big in this community!
The children here are all soo beautiful it is awesome to have them around. I can’t explain how it feels to see my teammates running around and playing with all the kids, it’s a fully happy feeling. 🙂 It seems to be that Saturdays will be like special outing days, and then Sundays we will go to the Chichicasanenga (haha thats prolly spelled completely wrong) and go to what I believe to be the mecca of all Mayan markets for the day to get food and supplies for the next week. Monday – Friday we will be working from about 8-4 minus lunch breaks, a few futball games, trips to the lake and a few hours Monday afternoon for church. (when they do church here they broadcaster through a loud speaker over the whole country side, and it seems like there always church being blasted from somewhere, hahhaha and on fridays its right up the road… untill 2 in the morning…)
We are all still settling in and getting used to the extreme lifestyle change we have all entered into. This month is a very important time for our team, we are learning how to work together, how to relate to eachother, and in general just figure our stuff out before we go and help everyone else. But it’s all getting better by the moment and we are adjusting very smoothly. Our first few days have been a constant reminder of how much favor God has over our team. We have three meals a day cooked for us, we have warm showers, Manuels family is unbelievably cool, Precious ran into like 6 people she new at the market on Sunday, she also has tracts in QuiChe the mayan language spoken here, no one has been sick, we shoveled/wheel-barreled dirt for 6 hours no one complained or was terribly sore and we ended with higher spirits than when we started. Those are just a few of the things that we have been blessed with so far. We will learn to walk in this favor and we will become an unbeivable, talented, compassionate team who will pray dangerously and dare to dream big. Amen. Love you all! Talk to you soon!
P.S. Hi mom, we’re here, we’re safe and we’re havin fun love you!!
** Update **
Elizabeth has been sick the last few days, and we all traveled back to ChiChi to go to the hospital. We ended up staying at like a mansion. It was sooo beautiful, hot showers, beds, expensive couches, tile floors, microwaves, refrigerator, stoves, toasters, toilet seats, toilet paper, air fresheners!! aahhhhahaha!!
We also traveled to Panajachel (sp) for what was supposed to be a few hours but turned into the entire day. We all got in the back a a huge truck (kind of like those army trucks with the canvas covers on the back, but rainbow colored) and headed down. The town is on a huge lake that is bordered by three volcanos. Muy Bonita.
We have been learning so much, everynight we meet up and talked about what we did, what we can do better, just everything thats been going on. So everyday we are getting more unified and more focused. Learning how to work with eachother learning how to manage our time and what we want to accomplish as a group. Its been real good.
Travel…. Wow.   Have you ever flew down a mountain with 23 people packed into a 15 person van, with buses flying past in every direction.. hahaha its crazy, i think they just take the “i hope no ones coming” approach..
Hopefully I’ll have more blogs and some video next week. Its been hard collecting all my thoughts lately but no worries it’s getting better..
Thank you all !! Ill talk to you again soon !!
