One of the great things about the World Race is the opportunity to raise up leaders. I was “raised up”  on the race in two significant ways so far. One being offered the team leader position after month three and another way more relevant to this blog being raised up as a worship leader. During training camp when the subject of worship came up there was no one who really had any experience playing guitar in that particular scenario. Through the grapevine it was found out ‘some how’ that I played guitar. So we had a meeting that went something like this… “We would like to offer you this position, we are here to help you how ever we can” in shear terror I replied “Haha ok, yea I’ll do it.” I knew that God was calling me up to it, and it was obvious so was ever body else. It was messy at first but eventually I found my groove. To make up for my lack of experience and confidence we did a lot of iPod worship (hooking an iPod to some speakers and playing worship music) which was amazing. But there is something that is missing from that, its not the same as live worship. So with that as a little bit of background info I’ll continue.
Over the last month God has been awakening the worship bug in one of my teammates Alana Serna. A gifted worshiper. At the same time I haven’t felt the same pull for leading worship as I had before. Things were changing, I was given the opportunity to pass the torch. So I got a few of our worship leaders together and we talked to Alana and basically said “Your in charge, we are here for anything you need.” So she took that torch and ran. That night we had one of the greatest worship sessions so far. She brought us back to the basics, live music, guitar, drums, voices, all coming together to worship our God. Fresh, real, live, it was amazing! I feel honored and proud and excited all at the same time. It’s a privilege to be able to be part of something like this.
