When I got back from Chiang Dao, a couple of squadmates and I were chosen to plan a worship night to welcome a passport team stopping at Zion Hostel. However, we are not really a talented group of people when it comes to instruments. We can’t play guitar or sing for our squad because none of us ever learned. The leadership wanted to give our former worship team a break from leading for a while. We came up with some ideas like a jam worship with rap, blackout worship, or pot and pan worship. Also, one of our squad members, Amanda, wanted to share something.
     Three hours before worship we decided to do a blackout worship. Blackout worship is basically without the lights. Amanda is going to give her talk between the songs. We welcomed the passport team and asked them to introduce themselves. We didn’t need a band in front of us playing songs because worship comes from the posture of our heart, it is a time of thanksgiving. When Amanda gave her talk, she said: “God has put it on my heart to share my testimony with you and I want us to be intentional with each other.” It really hit my team and I while we were in the village that we have been struggling with being intentional the past month, but we are still in the growing progress.
     In Matthew 4, the devil tempted Jesus to bow down and worship him. Jesus responds with scripture saying, “Worship the Lord your God only.” God invites us to worship so we might put our dependence on him and appreciation. Satan wants Jesus to worship him for vanity’s sake.
     “O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made. I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder. Thy power throughout the universe displayed (How Great Thou Art by Carl Boberg ).” This song just simply describe magnificent our God is. At worship, I sing songs as they appear across the screen, I often catch myself wondering, “Do I really mean it?” Words have meaning, sing to the Lord as you mean it.
     One way we can worship is how we view His creation. The whole universe testifies how masterminded his design is. I have been in Thailand about a month and a half now, and there are a lot of beautiful mountains I have seen. The radiant stars hang across the sky by order. To look at those mountains and reflect the praise to the one who has created is worship.
“If the stars were made to worship so will I;
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I;
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I;
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I;
If the wind goes where You send it so will I;
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I;
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy;
Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times (So Will I by Hillsong United).”
     Worship is giving praise to someone or something. Our sinful nature often praises falsely, through give praise to ourselves or little idols. There is also another way of worship include scripture pathway, a way to reflect word to God and be thankful. A nature pathway, a way to connect to God’s creation to admire him. We can be in a constant stage worshipping God through a constant reminder of giving glory to him. Our God is a very jealous God, so let us please him and give him the praise as He deserves.
