A relationship is a bond between two close people. Intimacy and relationship work together. Without relationship there will not be intimacy.  Intimacy is the result of a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. It occurs when two people become very close to each other, having a deep spiritual conversation.

    My relationship with God has grown really close this past month as I have learned to walk by his side and trust him more.  The way I have developed my intimacy with the Lord is by listening to worship music and meditating in prayer. People have always told me to take it to the Lord, but I never truly did that until last month. I take things to God so I might come out more steadfast.  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). God already knows our worries and trouble, when we come to him with our burden we are accepting his intimate invitation. By taking our burden to God on an intimate level, it lightens our load. One of the most intimate things we can do is to take our burdens to the Lord because he loves us and will take care of us. Through doing that, I lay my burdens in front of the feet of Jesus and I have to depend on Him.

   “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5). We were created and called to have intimacy with him. We cannot live without him unless we come to a realization that we need God. He desires us to be with him. When Adam and Eve sinned, that broke our relationship with God. God required sacrifices and obedience to his law, but in the end man was not able to reach God on his own. God gave us the Law to show us that we are sinful.  He knew that we could never keep those laws, he gave them to us to help us see that we could not reconcile our relationship with God on our own. Through those things God set a path for sending his son. God loved us so much that he sent his only begotten son the holy, blemish-free lamb, to die on the cross for our sins. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God did that for intimacy with us.

    Intimacy takes time to build, like trust. By spending time in prayer, reading his word, and having the mindset of prayer and thanksgiving constantly, we can also develop intimacy with the Lord. Having intimacy is not always about our actions, it can be reflecting on the goodness of our God. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you”(Philippians 4:8-9).
