The girls on our squad wanted us to throw them a Galentine party. So, we did calling it our “Tacky Prom”. When we were planning this prom, I actually mean Landon planned it. The rest of us just did what he told us to do.
It took a lot of effort to make this prom special. We made name tags for the tables, balloons, flowers, candles, you know all the party stuff. We had a bar with different mixed drinks (Non-alcoholic) such as jungle juice, mint sunshine, and berry good. Everyone dressed up in tacky clothes. It was super fun. One of our squad leader Christie made us guys tuxedo t-shirts. For food, Landon designed a three-course meal that included Italian salad, Alfredo pasta served with garlic bread and some delicious brownies with fancy chocolate sauce. The squad leaders hosted a pick-up line game with upbeat party music. Meanwhile, in the middle of the dance party prom king was announced, it was Landon to no one’s surprise.
This prom was not your normal prom located in a big city, instead, it was located at a small house in Costa Rica. The guests were not strangers, they are friends that I’ve known for six months. The clothes we wore weren’t fancy brands or hundreds of dollars, but last second cheap-O thrift store good finds or clothes we found in our backpacks with paint all over it. It will be a prom we will remember forever, since not everyone can say they’ve been to a gap year prom.
