When the word confession is brought up I think of telling and repenting my sin to God or to somebody. For me, confession is kind of scary because I don’t like to tell others what wrong things I have done. Confession is not always bad, it sometimes bring peace.
God is the beginning of confession. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10). When God confesses his love for us, this is an invitation for us. When we acknowledge that God loves us so much, then we love him back. The love between God and us creates communion. We confess our actions so that we might be made righteous in his eyes.
Our hearts are often full of burdens. It is akin to a ball of chains on our neck. Since Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins, we just need to simply toss our burden to him and recognize our sinful nature. It needs to be genuine and pure from the bottom of our heart. Confession should come from our deep desire to be made right with the Lord. We want to share our hearts because we love God.
After the fall of man, sin entered the world and made a gap between the Lord and mankind. When we hide and keep away our sin from God it hinders us from succeeding. God knows all things before we even do it. We need to confess our sin to the Lord, if we don’t, we are just building blockages and further ourselves away from him. We need to be transparent with God in all things. People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy (Proverbs 28:13) It is very prideful of us to keep the sins to ourselves. It humbles you when you could lower yourself and confess your sin.
God already promised us forgiveness, why not just hand him all our sins? It is like when you win a lottery ticket and just too dumb to claim it. But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we rebelled against him (Daniel 9:9).
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other, so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results (James 5:16) It is scarier when we confess our sin to our family and friends because others might look down on us. When we confess our sin to each other it builds trust. When we know each others sin we can pray and encourage each other.
Confession is a very simple conversation between God or people to share our sin. God is always right there and ready to forgive. He wants our hearts to lay down and worship the true and only God.
