Who Knew stepping out of your comfort zone and talking to people you normally would not talk to, would lead to a night of laughter and great conversation.
To start off, our team was staying at the Soapberry house for our debrief. Along with our team was another group was enjoying the place. As I was eating breakfast, I had the feeling that we needed go down to the pool and talk to the other group. Ignoring the feeling, I decided to just go on with my day. No big deal right.
Now as the day progressed,a headache started to developed. Did not think much about a headache. Maybe I was tired or did not get enough water to drink. I just went on with my day.As the evening progressed my headache got worse. I thought about skipping worship that night, though in the long run, I decided to go.
During worship that night, another teammate (Erika)said,”that God was reminding us not to ignore the group outside and that some of us have headaches as a reminder.” After she made her announcement, God told me that I really need go and talk to this group. On my way down to the pool, I met Ana and asked, “ If she wanted to go and talk to the group with me
Introductions were made and conversations started to flow. We joked around. Found out one the guys is going to Yosemite. During our conversation,I had this urge from God to ask if anyone had a headache. All three guys looked at me like I was crazy.- No one had a headache, but this started a whole new door of conversation. After asking them, my headache was gone.
One of the guys was impressed that I would step-out and ask a complete stranger my question. As we continued the conversation, he started to ask “what it was like to talk to strangers about faith.“ He was curious about being rejected by people or people telling him no. We talked about what it means to step out in faith and talk about God. I shared several stories about times when I stepped out in faith. He when asked me it is easier to talk about faith in Costa Rica then the USA. My answer surprised him. People in Costa Rica are so hungry for faith that when I mention God and who he is, they want to know so much more. Where as in the USA, people really don‘t want to know about God.
After this we talked more about the world race and what we were doing. Jose stated” that is really takes great faith to go out and bring the gospel around the world.” He wished us the best and said good night.
Now the thought went through my mind, what if i did not talk to them. Would this conversation happen else where.Sometimes God does unpredictable things to get put attention and it in our hands to follow through.
Early I mentioned two squad mates. If you are interested in reading their stories here are the links to their blogs.
