When you hear the word missionary, what/who do you see? What do they look like? How do they speak?
I pictured a socially awkward, skirt/khaki pant wearing, Bible thumping, shaggy haired, camera-carrying weirdo.
Terrible, huh?
Ever-since God called me into the mission field; I’ve constantly struggled with what I thought I should look and act like.
- I don’t own a pair of chaco’s
- I’ve never been camping
- I’ve never had to/wanted to sleep outdoors
- I don’t own an “eno”
- Comfortably I cannot go without make-up or hair-spray
(This list can seriously go on for great lengths, but you get the idea)
I am obviously lacking in the mainstream “outdoorsy” gear that every other person is up to date on. I’m not loud, and I don’t run up to people telling them about Jesus. I’m not a fan of small talk, so how am I supposed to get to know people? I can’t remember a day where I went out in public without make-up- so what in the world am I going to do for 11 months “bare-faced”?!
These thoughts bombard me daily. It’s a crippling fear of not feeling adequate or prepared enough to share God’s love.
God uses ANYONE for ANYTHING He see’s fit.
He’s called me- an everyday make-up wearing, bug fearing, jeans loving, hair-spray abusing, air-conditioned house dwelling, hair perfect in every place kinda girl. To go around the world in places with extreme poverty where my comfort zone will be brutally modulated in order to accomplish His calling on my life.
I AM SCAREDHAPPYSADEXCITED!
All in all, I know that during this preparation time I need to seek God desperately. Stepping out in faith is easier said than done, but I’m taking the plunge!
Will you dive with me?
Will you step out in faith?
Will you help me build God’s Kingdom? – Do I have your support?
Meditate on these questions, and ask them daily. I not only need your prayers, I need financial donations. I believe God will provide above and beyond my expectations and if you allow Him, He’ll use you to be apart of this journey!
(Oh, and the t-shirt sales are doing awesome! God is showing off!!) 😉
