I was recently listening to the Hillsong United song “Hosanna” and there’s a part of the song that sums up what I’d like to get from the World Race experience:

Heal my heart and make it clean

Open up my eyes to the things unseen

Show me how to love like You have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks Yours

Everything I am for Your Kingdom’s cause

As I walk from Earth into eternity

I expect to feel a wide range of emotions from sadness to joy to anger to frustration…I know that I will be shocked by things I’ll see. I’ve already had different emotions by reading participant blogs from the field. If I cry over reading a story then I KNOW that when I see some things I will not understand how they are still happening in this century.

I expect to meet new friends and miss my friends and family here in the U.S. I’ll be meeting new brothers and sisters in Christ worldwide!

I expect to be convicted of how many things I have – If I can live out of a backpack for 11 months then I probably don’t need everything I have here. I’m sure I’ll be surprised at how little I actually need to survive.

I expect to be forever changed – I don’t know if I’ll be able to live a normal American life after this trip. I know I will appreciate basic things more like clean water to drink, hot water to bathe, my bed, air conditioning, and a roof over my head…

I expect to be exposed to different cultural customs, languages and foods. I’ll hopefully learn a few phrases in each language.

I expect to see AMAZING things! I expect to see souls won for the Kingdom, for chains of bondage to be broken, for the hope and love of Christ to be given to those who have lost all hope.

I expect for my walk with Christ to be impacted greatly. I know that my faith will grow stronger and I hope that I can be an encouragement to those that I meet. And I know that I’ll learn a lot from my brothers and sisters throughout the world!
