Last month:
Cambodia was a good very challenging month. I wanted to give you some insight of what Cambodia looked like. We did ministry at this place called “Shelter of Love”. The kids there are so full of life. Many of them were dropped off at the shelter because the parents couldn’t afford them or didn’t want them or the parents had died. A long term missionary, Sue, came to call this place home over 22 years ago. She lived in North Carolina, her husband died when she was 50 years old and she felt like the lord was calling her to Cambodia that her race was not yet finished it was just beginning.
Obeying the call, Sue moved away from home started teaching English at a University. Sue learned the Khmer language, which mind you it’s a very hard language…it looks to me like a frog hopped all over the paper. During the years of teaching at this University she met one of her students, Bora. He is now one of the Christian leaders at “Shelter of Love” but at the time in college he was a practicing Buddhist. Teaching at the university God used Sue to be a light and love her students, to pray for them and share the good news. God lead her to build “Shelter of Love” and glorify Jesus with it.
Now, it’s a home in the beautiful tucked away farm land in Kampong Thom. The children that live there range from little ones to college aged. They learn how to live and all have chores to do like water the garden, clean the dishes, yardwork…etc. The kids grow up learning about Jesus. Church, worship, evening devotions, and English class are held on the property for different age groups. House parents are assigned in three different buildings. People here are fed physically and spiritually. What a wonderful organization that is firmly rooted in Jesus. Apart from “Shelter of Love” God used Sue to reach out to other children not in that same village by creating a school, “Clever Child International School”, that teaches English, reading, history, Jesus…etc. God has truly used his holy spirit inside of Sue to bring his love to Cambodia, a country that was literally broken 40 years ago and is still recovering from the tragedy that happened. There was a genocide that happened in 1976 from the Khmer Rouge Government, they killed over 1.5 million people…children, babies, women, men, the elderly… so most of the population is still damaged and terrified that it could happen again.
Even though we are here in every place for only a month (encouraging the ministry hosts) there are long term missionaries who are the real MVP…not us! They are the ones who stay for 5 years or 8 years or like Sue for 22 years. Investing into the people here and planting, tilling and harvesting the soil. Please be in prayer for Sue, Shelter of Love and all the children there.
Your sister in Christ,
Tiffany
