Greetings family and friends, thank you for your continued support and prayer.
As many of you know, we are in Month 3, which is Honduras, and we have about a week left here. Something that really laid on my heart when we arrived on the 5th of November was this encounter.
Upon arriving in Honduras we had to take a bus from the capital to Catacamas. As I sat on the bus I thought to myself, “God, how can your truth be shared here? How can I strike up a conversation with this man next to me, when I can’t speak Spanish?” I sat there for a couple minutes, and then I saw a man stand up in the very front of the bus. I wondered what he was doing… then he just jumped right into sharing about Jesus, reading out of the book of Matthew in Spanish. The entire bus of about 40 people had their eyes fixed on him. I was speechless and full of excitement. I sat there amazed at being able to watch this happen, and then it hit me. Disciples of Jesus are here in Honduras… and they are ready, obedient in following the call of Jesus wherever that leads them.
Let’s put this in perspective. This man, knowing that his heart was being tugged to boldly stand up in front of 40 people he does not know and share about Jesus, decided to say yes. I can only imagine the thoughts going through his head. “What if I’m ignored? What if I’m mocked or being offensive? What if I disturb someone with the Bible?” But he pushes all those aside and does it anyways, because God is a Creator who wants to be our Father, who sent Jesus to be our Savior and who is worthy of all praise and all glory.
This brings me to my next thought. Being born again in Christ means our eternal lives start now, not when we die. That means we should order our life in such a way that it gives all glory to Jesus. From the moment you wake up to the moment you lay your head down at night. Always be ready. What will you be doing when Jesus returns?
“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming… Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” – Matthew 24: 42, 44
So, what will you be doing? Noticing the unnoticeable? Loving the unlovable? Wasting your life on worldly matters? Let’s be real. When we die, what actually will have mattered? Is it the idea of working your whole life to buy the next best thing? Or that you loved Christ and others in such a way that brought God Glory & Praise?
“For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” – Philippians 3: 18-21
Francis Chan wrote, “May our eyes never be fixed on only what’s in front of us, may we orient our lives around eternity.” (Crazy Love)
Lord, help me to love you from when I wake up in the mornings to when I go to sleep at night. And on days when I don’t want to love, may this love, which only comes from you, extend to everyone around me. May it bring you glory and praise, may people get a glimpse of who you are because of the Holy Spirit inside me. May others come to know you because of this love.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” -John 13: 34-35
